Why Young Professionals in the UAE Need a Will Too

You don't need to be wealthy or old to benefit from estate planning. Here's why.

Wills are often associated with retirement, large estates and complicated families. In reality, the people who benefit most from acting early are young professionals at the start of their UAE careers - precisely the group that most often delays.

You probably have more than you think

A young professional in the UAE typically has a salary, an end-of-service gratuity that grows year by year, a savings account, maybe an investment portfolio or some crypto, a car, and personal belongings of meaningful value. Add a tenancy deposit, an emergency fund and any shares in a side project, and the estate is rarely small. Without a will, all of it is subject to default distribution rules.

Partners and unmarried relationships

Default rules in the UAE typically do not recognise unmarried partners. If you live with a long-term partner who is not your legal spouse, they may inherit nothing from your local estate without a registered will - regardless of how long you have been together. A will is the only reliable way to make sure they are provided for.

Parents and siblings

Even single, child-free professionals often want to direct where their assets go - to a sibling, to parents who supported their education, or to a cause they care about. Default rules apply mechanical formulas; only a will can express specific intent.

It is faster and cheaper than you expect

A UAE will for a straightforward situation can be registered through ADJD for an official fee of approximately AED 950, with all-in costs that are far lower than most young professionals assume. The questionnaire takes minutes; the document is valid until you choose to update it. For a one-time effort, you remove a significant source of risk - and free your family from having to handle it for you later.
